Bushwalk Description
Fern Glade is one of Burnie's most valuable natural
resources located in a peaceful river valley haven on the
edge of the city. Fern Glade Reserve is only 3.9km from
the City Centre to the main entrance and offers long
walks along the banks of the Emu River and the chance to see
the shy Australia platypus.
The Reserve also offers barbecue facilities, picnic furniture
and toilets and can be accessed by vehicles at the main entrance
or from a second entrance app. 1/2 a kilometre up river.
More than a dozen species of native orchids can be found noted
along the walking track, which offers a longer three-hour bush
walk through native vegetation in a minimally developed state
for the more adventurous.
Fern Glade is a magnificent walk among large,
spectacular tree ferns along the Emu River. If you are lucky
you may see a platypus.

The reserve closes at dusk each day and re-opens each morning
at 7.30am
Fern Glade Bushwalk is close to the centre of
the city of Burnie and is a quiet riverside picnic area. The
reserve is managed bythe Burnie City Council.
