Description

A Hidden Waterfall in the Forests of kunanyi / Mount Wellington

Myrtle Gully Falls Track is a beautiful rainforest walk on the lower slopes of kunanyi / Mount Wellington, following the Myrtle Gully Rivulet through towering eucalypts, lush tree ferns and cool temperate forest to one of Hobart’s most picturesque waterfalls.

Beginning near the historic Cascade Brewery, this peaceful walk feels surprisingly remote despite being only minutes from Hobart’s city centre. After periods of rain, Myrtle Gully Falls becomes particularly impressive, making this one of Wellington Park’s most rewarding short walks.

Track Description

The walk begins at the end of Old Farm Road in South Hobart and follows the Myrtle Gully Track alongside the picturesque Myrtle Gully Rivulet. The path climbs steadily through cool rainforest beneath a canopy of tall eucalypts, myrtle beech and giant tree ferns.

After passing the smaller Secret Falls, the track continues gently uphill before reaching Myrtle Gully Falls, where water cascades over a rocky cliff into a peaceful fern-lined gully.

The return journey follows the same route, allowing walkers to once again enjoy the tranquil sounds of the forest and flowing creek.

Difficulty

The Myrtle Gully Falls Track is generally rated Grade 3 – Moderate. While there are no technical sections, the steady uphill gradient, uneven ground and occasional muddy patches require a moderate level of fitness and suitable footwear.
