Hazards Beach Circuit
- August 3, 2026
Freycinet"s premier full-day walk is an 11 - 12.5km loop taking in the iconic Wineglass Bay Lookout and beach, then…

The Wineglass Bay Lookout Walk leads to what is arguably Tasmania’s most photographed view — the perfect white-sand crescent of Wineglass Bay, framed by the pink granite peaks of The Hazards.
The track makes a steep but well-constructed climb through coastal woodland and past striking granite boulders. The reward is an unforgettable panorama that lives up to every photograph you may have seen. This is the most popular walk in Freycinet National Park, and for good reason: it delivers a spectacular visual payoff in a relatively short outing.

From the car park, the track climbs steadily through coastal woodland and past prominent granite boulders. Resting seats are positioned along the route, providing places to pause and enjoy the surrounding landscape.
The ascent is sustained and can feel steep in places. The track climbs towards the saddle between the granite peaks, from where it is only a short distance to the main Wineglass Bay lookout platforms.
The Wineglass Bay Lookout Walk is rated Grade 3 – Medium. Although the track is well constructed, the steady uphill climb, numerous steps and uneven granite sections require a reasonable level of fitness. Most active visitors should be able to complete the walk by taking their time and using the resting seats where needed.
The lookout delivers the signature panorama of Wineglass Bay’s brilliant white crescent, turquoise water and surrounding pink granite peaks. It is one of the most recognisable and photographed views in Australia.
A worthwhile viewpoint along the route provides views back across Coles Bay and the surrounding coastline.
Whales and dolphins are occasionally visible from the lookout, particularly during whale migration periods. Wallabies, native birds and other wildlife may also be encountered along the track.
Yes. The walk is suitable for children who are comfortable with a sustained uphill climb and numerous steps. It is a popular family walk, although younger children may find the ascent tiring and may require additional rest breaks.
No. Dogs and other domestic animals are not permitted within Freycinet National Park.
From Coles Bay, follow Freycinet Drive into Freycinet National Park and continue towards the main walking-track car park near the Freycinet Visitor Centre. The Wineglass Bay Lookout Walk begins from the signposted trailhead.
Freycinet National Park is approximately 2.5 hours’ drive from Hobart and around 55 minutes’ drive from Swansea.
Parking and public toilets are available near the start of the walk. There are no toilets, drinking-water points or other facilities along the track. A valid Tasmanian National Parks Pass is required to enter Freycinet National Park.
This is the walk that places Freycinet National Park on almost every Tasmanian travel itinerary. The relatively short, well-built track delivers one of the state’s most spectacular and instantly recognisable views.
Walkers with more time and energy can continue from the lookout down to Wineglass Bay Beach, turning the outing into a longer and more demanding half-day walk.
