Cobler Rocks Track
- September 4, 2026
An easy 6km loop through heathland and along wild coastline in Mount William National Park, taking in the granite outcrops…

Starting from the free Sloop Reef camping area, this short and informal walk follows a coastal bush footpad to Sloop Rock Lookout — a little-known vantage point with sweeping views over the Bay of Fires’ famous orange-lichen-covered granite and vivid turquoise water. With no formal track markers and very limited facilities, the walk has a pleasantly secluded feel despite being located within one of Tasmania’s most popular coastal regions. Bay of Fires Walks

The final section includes uneven granite surfaces, so take care near the edge and avoid wet or slippery rocks.
Rated Easy, this is a short walk with little elevation change. The main challenge is the lack of formal signage, so walkers should pay attention to the route and surrounding landmarks.
Enjoy broad and often uncrowded views across the Bay of Fires coastline, including the region’s distinctive orange granite boulders, white sand and brilliantly clear water.
Minimal signage and limited facilities help Sloop Reef retain a more remote and natural atmosphere than many of the better-known locations around Binalong Bay.
A small sandy cove near the lookout provides another peaceful place to explore, photograph or simply pause and enjoy the coastline.
Yes, with supervision. The walk is suitable for children who are comfortable on an informal bush track and uneven granite. Keep children close near the lookout and rocky shoreline.
Dogs are generally permitted at Sloop Reef but should be kept on a lead and under effective control. Check current signs at the camping area before setting out.
From Binalong Bay, follow Gardens Road north past Cosy Corner to the signposted Sloop Reef camping area. The drive generally takes around 10 to 15 minutes.
For a quieter and more informal perspective on the Bay of Fires, the walk to Sloop Rock Lookout is well worth seeking out. It combines a short bushwalk with impressive coastal scenery and far fewer visitors than the region’s best-known viewpoints.
