Meander Falls Walk

Bushwalk Details

Meander Falls bushwalk Tasmania is located a comfortable 1 hours drive from either Launceston or Devonport. Meander Falls are very popular and widely considered one of the great short-medium bushwalks in Tasmanian. The track is quite rocky and does have some steep sections and there can be snow and mud to negotiate during the wetter winter months. The walk is uphill for app. 3 to 3 1/2 hours, and the only relief is the last 20 minutes or so which crosses a short plateau. The falls are in two distinct tiers as they drop through a rocky chasm. A great time to visit the Meander Falls in after snow or frost in winter and spring when sections of the falls can freeze and form large icicles. There are a number of wonderful walks in the Meander World Heritage Area, from half to full-day walks. Meander Falls and Split Rock Track (2.5 hours return) are both good walks for fit, experienced and well-equipped bushwalkers. The track begins from an area app. 30 minutes drive from the town of Deloraine. Quamby Bluff, Projection Bluff, and Liffey Forest Reserve. Featured walks in the area are Liffey Falls walk which takes app. 1-2 hours return, Projection Bluff, a wilderness ramble of 1-2 hours, and Quamby Bluff is 5 hours return. The nearest accommodation is at Golden Valley, Bogan Gap, or Quamby Brook. The Meander Falls Walking track has signs and an information area in the car park with information about the condition and length of the track. There are also sign-in sheets and a map of the walk at the start of the Meander Falls walk. The walk can be completed in app. 5-6 hours. Tracks in the Meander reserve are rough in places and the area is high and exposed and prone to snow and ice. The walk is not recommended for young children and is suitable only for people who are reasonably fit and healthy. The Meander Forest Reserve is a haven for those people who love outdoor activities such as bushwalking, picnics, and adventure activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, or horse riding.
