A Tarkine rainforest walk near Waratah, following the Arthur River before a steep 200-plus step stairway to a viewing platform…

Perched on a dramatic volcanic plateau above Bass Strait, Table Cape combines sweeping coastal scenery with one of north-west Tasmania’s most recognisable landmarks. The easy clifftop walk links the Table Cape Lookout with the historic Table Cape Lighthouse, which has stood above the coast since 1888. From late September to mid-October, the nearby Table Cape Tulip Farm adds a spectacular display of colour, although the lighthouse and coastal views make this a rewarding walk at any time of year.

Built in 1888, Table Cape Lighthouse remains one of the most photographed lighthouses on Tasmania’s North West Coast. Its elevated position above Bass Strait provides excellent views along the coastline and across the surrounding farmland.
During the spring flowering season, usually from late September to mid-October, the Table Cape Tulip Farm becomes one of the region’s most popular attractions. Rows of tulips create a vivid display of red, yellow, pink, orange and purple across the slopes of the cape. The farm is a separate attraction and may charge an entry fee during its open season.
The exposed clifftop provides broad views over Bass Strait and along the north-west coastline. On clear days, visitors can see towards Fossil Bluff, Wynyard and the surrounding coastal farmland.
Top Tip: During tulip season, visit early in the morning to avoid the largest crowds and enjoy calmer conditions before the coastal wind strengthens.
Yes. This is an easy and family-friendly walk suitable for children of most ages. The short distance and level terrain make it manageable for younger walkers, although close supervision is essential near exposed clifftop sections. Dogs on a lead are generally permitted within the Table Cape Lookout Reserve. Dogs are not usually permitted within the adjoining tulip farm during its public opening season, so visitors should check current signage and farm conditions before arriving.
